Hamble Hounds has been running in Hamble, Hampshire and the surrounding area for 10 years and on an average week will work with around 45 - 50 dogs in various classes as well as seeing dogs and owners on an individual basis. We don't advertise, so all our work comes from recommendations, via local vets or this website.
We are a professional dog training school, accredited by the Association of Pet Dog Trainers www.apdt.co.uk who have stringent assessment criteria, including a requirement for ongoing professional development.
We are also very much part of the village, taking part in Hamble Week, running the dog activities at HCC Big Doggy Do in September and having Father Christmas visit in early December before he gets too busy, and in class give special attention to getting children involved in the training sessions and learning about the dog's needs. One of the really great things is that many people who have meet at puppy classes are still walking together years later! Training really is a family and friendly thing to do

You will see from elsewhere on the website that we are dedicated to showing how dogs can be taught to behave using positive methods. This does not in any way mean that we think dogs should be given free rein to do as they like, nor does it mean that we cannot understand the distress, embarrassment, frustration, even anger or fear, that dogs can engender. We do truly understand how hard it can be, and take time and trouble to explain WHY we are suggesting certain methods to help, on the premise that if owners understand how dogs learn they can move forward in all sorts of areas. It is a wonderful thing, for example, to be able to teach how to get an exuberant dog to calm down and focus, so that he and his human can start having a good, strong relationship, instead of winding each other up!
It's important to us to have low numbers of dogs in each class (maximum of 6 indoors); hopefully we then pick up on stress and tension, areas of concern etc in humans as well as dogs, and deal with these on a individual basis... and have fun too!
